Universität des Saarlandes

Universität des Saarlandes, or Saarland University (USAAR), was founded in 1948 in co-operation with France. Today the University counts 15,500 students of whom 7% are foreign students. USAAR has 8 faculties and provides a broad spectrum of disciplines, typical of a classical universitas litterarum.

The Faculty of Medicine (University Hospital) is located in Homburg with more than 1,800 people are studying medicine. There are 36 hospitals or institutions treating more than 54,000 inpatients and nearly 190,000 outpatients each year. Within Saarland University is the department of Paediatric Oncology and Haematology; this is responsible for the care of patients in the Saarland and the surrounding area. The focus in research of the Department of Paediatric Oncology and Haematology is nephroblastoma (clinical study and trial and basic research in cooperation with different institutes) and brain tumours.

Role

USAAR is one of the clinical partners of iManageCancer and therefore shedding light on clinical aspects and the requirements of the project. Especially the view of end-users are analysed so that patients and citizens will not only trust our system but also love use the platform and all their tools. An important task are the clinical pilots and their evaluation but also the engagement in a serious game for children that will be developed in this project.

USAAR is leading WP2 (User Requirements) and is enrolled in WP5 (Central decision support and guidance system) leading the task for knowledge engineering, WP7 (Serious games for self-management) leading the task for analysis of existing serious games for cancer patients and the theoretical background, WP8 (Smart analytical data services), WP9 (Pilots and their evaluation) leading the task for pilots for children.
